Group Homes
Universal Institute offers clients a wide range of
residential opportunities, which includes group homes and garden
apartments. Currently, we have 12 homes located in the northern
New Jersey area, including a grand opening of our latest
construction in Livingston. All of our residential homes operate
on our motto that everyone can reach for the stars and achieve
their dreams. Therefore, our homes offer the clients’
opportunities to perform basic living skills as independently as
possible based upon their capabilities and confidence. Please

Located in Northern New Jersey, Universal
Institute's residential program combines an aggressive
therapy program during the day with a concentration on
"Activities of Daily Living" (ADL's) and community
re-entry in the evening and on weekends.
All of our residences are fully accessible with extra
wide doorways, custom roll in wheelchair showers and
large state-of-the-art kitchens.
Highly trained certified staff members supervise and
assist the residents 24 hours a day. Residential
activities include food shopping, meal preparation,
social/recreational outings, medication management, and
safety awareness trainings within the home and
community. |

Garden Apartments
Universal's garden apartments are for individuals who require
less intensive level of supervision. Residents have 24 hour
staff support and access to all community-based services. Staff
is located at the apartment complex and always on call and
available for the residents.
The complex is only minutes away from shopping and a large
variety of cultural activities. Universal offers one and two
bedroom apartments that are situated on the ground level for
easy access. The apartments are fully accessible with large
spacious rooms and furnished with all the modern conveniences of
home. The garden complex offers a multi-cultural environment,
clubhouse, swimming pool and tennis courts.

Respite Programs
Sometimes an individual needs a place to stay for a short period
of time while their family or caregiver is away. Other times
they would simply like to try Universal's programs out before
making a longer term commitment. For these types of situations
Universal Institute offers short term programs known as "Respite
Care". Short term accommodations can be made for residential
and/or day programs throughout the year.
The Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP)
An Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP) is developed for each
resident. The IHP sets goals to increase living skills, levels
of responsibility and behavioral improvement to enable the
individual to most effectively return to the community.
Universal Institute's transdisciplinary team meets regularly
with the resident and family members to discuss current progress
and possible future goals and objectives.
