Medical Services
The Medical Department is a strong asset to the Universal
Institute’s team approach that consists of a full time onsite
primary care provider, who provides the primary care for the
residents and the therapy participants 7 days a week. The
Primary Care Provider is a medical doctor with a specialization
in developmental disabilities and manages from the range of the
common cold to more complex conditions. A staff physiatrist
leads the rehabilitation team. The physiatrist prescribes the
necessary therapy program for clients, supervises the delivery
of the rehabilitation program and closely monitors clients’
progress. Other members of the medical team are the podiatrist,
psychotherapist and counselor, who available one day per week.
In addition to the medical staff, there is a medical care
coordinator, who schedules every residential participant’s
outpatient medical care and their transportation to and from
those appointments. The medical coordinator, also schedules and
follows up on the residents annual check ups, inoculations – if
needed, and their medication renewal.
Another major asset of Universal Institute is that all the
primary care is performed onsite at the Universal Institute’s
medical office. As a result, of these services, their
communication with the group home managers and residents, and
their preventative approach to healthcare, their incidents of
wounds and ER visits have decreased by 99%.
Medical
Management and Transportation
Universal Institute has a fleet of approximately 19
handicap accessible vans that provides medical
transportation, manages monthly, and annual doctors’
appointments. Daily pickup and drop off of patients is
provided to all clients from their homes to the facility
or as needed. The hours dependent on each client needs
so they can be start as early as 7 a.m. and work to 7
p.m. Universal Institute's trained staff ensure
continuity of care with all medical providers. |
